.. include:: imagerefs.txt ====================== Trial Manager - Trials ====================== Trial manager is designed to provide management, curation, and visualisation tools for trials so that they can be used in KDSmart for scoring and also so data can be curated before being uploaded to KDDart. This section provides more information on trials including how to create and manage them in Trial Manager. |br| .. only:: html |center-start| .. thumbnail:: images/TrialManager/TrialManager43.png :width: 100% :show_caption: True :alt: Trials Tab :title: Trials Tab (select to zoom) |center-end| .. only:: latex .. figure:: images/TrialManager/TrialManager43.png :scale: 100% :alt: Trials Tab Trials Tab |br| What is a Trial? ================ *Trial* is the general term that is used in KDDart to refer to studies, experiments, nurseries, projects ,etc. A trial will contains traits that are used to record data and possibly also tags. More information on traits and tags can be found on the `Trait `_ and `Tag `_ pages Generally a trial is created in KDXplore or KDManage, transferred to KDSmart for scoring in the field, and then transferred back to KDXplore for data curation, and finally uploaded into KDDart. |br| Trial Details ---------------- Each trial contains a set of details that define its characteristics. The following table lists the details of a trial (from KDDart) that are displayed in the **Trait Details Panel**. The details outlined in green in the image below are details related to KDDart. |br| .. only:: html |center-start| .. thumbnail:: images/TrialManager/TrialManager31.png :width: 70% :show_caption: True :alt: Trial Details :title: Trial Details (select to zoom) |center-end| .. only:: latex .. figure:: images/TrialManager/TrialManager31.png :scale: 70% :alt: Trial Details Trial Details |br| .. .. list-table:: Trial Details :widths: 18 70 :header-rows: 1 * - **Detail** - **Description** * - **Trait Name** - * - **Trial Name** - Name of the trial. * - **Acronym** - An acronym for the trial name. * - **Planting Date** - The date that specimens were planted for the trial. * - **Name for Plot** - Plots are the uniquely identified areas used in trials. The example below is the addition of traits to the empty Maize Trial that was created in the guide in the section above. |br| .. only:: html |center-start| .. thumbnail:: images/TrialManager/TrialManager33.png :width: 100% :show_caption: True :alt: Adding Traits to a Trial :title: Adding Traits to a Trial (select to zoom) |center-end| .. only:: latex .. figure:: images/TrialManager/TrialManager33.png :scale: 100% :alt: Adding Traits to a Trial Adding Traits to a Trial |br| .. list-table:: Adding Traits to a Trial :widths: 1 70 :header-rows: 1 * - Step - Action * - **1.** - Select a trial from the **Trials Panel** to add traits to. They will now appear in the **Uses Traits Panel** and the **Measurement By Source Panel**. .. note:: Trials can also be imported. See the *Trial Manager - Data Transfer* and *Trial Manager - Import, Export, & Backup* pages for more information. |br| Removing Traits From a Trial ---------------------------- Traits can also be removed from a trial. |br| .. only:: html |center-start| .. thumbnail:: images/TrialManager/TrialManager39.png :width: 70% :show_caption: True :alt: Removing Traits From a Trial :title: Removing Traits From a Trial (select to zoom) |center-end| .. only:: latex .. figure:: images/TrialManager/TrialManager39.png :scale: 70% :alt: Removing Traits From a Trial Removing Traits From a Trial |br| .. list-table:: Removing Traits From a Trial :widths: 1 70 :header-rows: 1 * - Step - Action * - **1.** - Select a trial from the **Trials Panel** so that its traits are listed in the **Uses Traits Panel**. * - **2.** - In the **Uses Traits Panel**, select the trait to be removed from the trial. * - **3.** - Select the |minus_gold_btn| **Remove Traits Button** to remove the trait. .. note:: Removing a trait from a trial will not delete the trait from Trial Manager. |br| Editing Trial Attributes ------------------------ Trials that have been imported or created within Trial Manager can be edited to change details or add/remove traits.
